Physical Classroom Requirements
Historically the JDK for Mac OSX was only available from Apple, but since JDK 1.7, it’s available directly through Oracle’s Java downloads. Download the.dmg (in the example below, jdk-7u67-macosx-x64.dmg ) and install it. Navigate to the folder where the demo VM is located, in this example it should be in the?Downloads? Folder of the user and called?cloudera-demo-0.3.7? Step 9: Click the?Continue? Button and the following dialog is now displayed and it shows a summary of the choices made so far.
- Room should be in ‘classroom format’ (desks and chairs facing the front of the room)
- A large conference room may be acceptable
- Projector with VGA input (1024 x 768 or better)
- Whiteboard or flipchart (whiteboard preferred)
- Internet access for students and instructor
Computer Requirements
This training course uses a local VMware Virtual Machine (VM), which connects to the remote machines in the Amazon EC2 cloud. Each student should have a Windows or Macintosh computer on which to run the VM. Below are the additional computer requirements:
- Minimum RAM required: 4GB
- Minimum Free Disk Space: 10GB
- VMware Player 6.x or above (Windows)/VMware Fusion 6.x or above (Mac)
- If running Windows XP: 7-Zip or WinZip (due to a bug in Windows XP’s built-in Zip utility)

Testing Connectivity for Cloudera’s Administrator Training Course: (This test should be completed by your Internal IT Team only!)
Cloudera’s Administrator training course uses a local virtual machine (VM) to connect to Amazon EC2 instances. In order for this to work, student machines must have Internet access with ports 80 and 443 open and unfiltered. (We use port 443 for ssh connections to the remote machines.)
To test connectivity beforehand, please do the following:
Free Downloads For Mac
• Download the test virtual machine from http://training.cloudera.com/cloudera/VMs/Cloudera-Admin-test-VM.zip
Download Manager For Mac
• Launch the VM in VMware Player, by double-clicking the file named Cloudera-Training-Get2EC2-VM-1.1.vmx (or open the file from within VMware Player)
• When the VM has launched, you should see a desktop with two terminal windows open.
• In one terminal window, type
connect_to_elephant.sh

If you are asked whether to continue connecting, type yes and hit enter. If connectivity succeeds, you will see a message giving some information about the machine to which you have connected, and a line starting with the word ‘CONGRATULATIONS!’.
https://dciwrva.weebly.com/blog/download-gom-media-player-10-for-mac. • In a DIFFERENT terminal window, type
![Download Download](/uploads/1/3/3/9/133938126/264822433.png)
start_proxy.sh
Again, if you are asked whether to continue connecting, reply with yes. You should see the same ‘Congratulations’ message.
• Then launch Firefox by clicking on its icon in the top menu bar (the round, orange and blue icon) and from the Bookmarks menu choose ‘Browser Connectivity Test’.
• If you see a page titled ‘NameNode elephant:8020 (active)’, then the browser connectivity test has succeeded. At this point, testing is complete and you can quit VMware Player.
Please note: this VM is for testing connectivity only. We will provide the actual VM to be used by students approximately one week before the course starts.
IMPORTANT: Additional VMware Player and Computer Requirements:
[1] VMware Player 6.x or above (Windows)/VMware Fusion 5.x or above (Mac)
[2] Student machines must support a 64-bit VMware guest image. If the machines are running a 64-bit version of Windows, or Mac OS X on a Core Duo 2 processor or later, no other test is required. Otherwise, VMware provides a tool to check compatibility, which can be downloaded from http://tiny.cloudera.com/training2
[3] Student machines must have VT-x virtualization support enabled in the BIOS.

[4] If running Windows XP: 7-Zip or WinZip (due to a bug in Windows XP’s built-in Zip utility)
[5] Internet access is mandatory for both students and instructor. This course uses Amazon EC2-based virtual machines; we port-forward SSH via ports 80 and 443. Access to the EC2 instances on those ports must be direct, with no HTTP proxy or other port filtering in place. If access to EC2 is not possible, an alternative configuration is to use local virtual machines. Please consult with us before selecting this option. In this case, student machines must have either:
Download Cloudera 4.7
- 8GB of RAM and 50GB of free hard disk space if the course does not use Cloudera Manager during the exercises; or
- 16GB of RAM and 70GB of free hard disk space if the course does use Cloudera Manager during the exercises.
